David Lay entered into the auction business after leaving school. Twenty one years ago, after becoming qualified he established his own auction and valuation business in Penzance. Eighteen years ago he purchased his present premises, a former engineering works built in the 1960's, and The Penzance Auction House was established. Since that time The Penzance Auction House has run a full, regular calendar of auctions covering all types of antiques, paintings and fine art, books and collectors items and general household effects. The Penzance Auction House also offers a free valuation service at the salerooms or by home appointment, valuations for probate and insurance and a complete house clearance service. The Penzance Auction House is now the largest, independent RICS qualified auctioneers and valuers in Cornwall holding twenty eight auctions each year. Auctions of Antiques & Selected Items Six auctions a year. Two day catalogued auctions of over 2,000 lots. Day one: Miscellaneous items, ceramics and glass. Day two: Silver, plated ware, jewellery, bijouterie and furniture. Auctions of Paintings, prints & Other Art. Three auctions a year. One day catalogued auctions of approximately 500 lots of oil paintings, watercolours, sculpture, prints, and art related items. Auctions of Books & Collectors Items. Two auctions a year. One day catalogue auctions of two sections. A section of antiquarian to modern books, manuscripts, documents, maps etc. and a collectors section of coins, stamps, medals and militaria, toys, cigarette and postcards. Auctions of Victorian to Modern Furniture & Effects. One day catalogue auctions of over 1,000 lots per auction approximately every three weeks consisting of a wide range of general effects from house clearances, deceased estates and private consignments. Also occasional specialist and on site auctions.
