Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale features a wonderful selection of paintings, works on paper and sculpture by leading artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Leading the sale is Pablo Picasso’s monumental yet tender portrayal of his lover Marie Thérèse Walter - Buste de femme de profil (Femme écrivant) - a masterpiece dating from his ‘year of wonders’ – 1932.
Further highlights include a shimmering view of the Mediterranean by Claude Monet, a bronze cast of Alberto Giacometti’s Le Chat and a magnificent 1933 oil by Joan Miró, as well as several oils and works on paper by key artists of German Expressionism. There is a strong selection of modern sculpture, including works by Jean Arp, Marino Marini and Henry Moore.
